I’ve been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California since 1988 and have experience in a wide variety of therapy settings. Perhaps more importantly, I am the daughter of a narcissistic mother so I know firsthand how painful and confusing it is to be raised this way. My personal recovery has provided me with tools and optimism in overcoming what we didn’t get from our parents, and ways to successfully move forward.

I was an active participant at Dr. McBride’s 3-day workshop in Denver where I was trained to help clients work through the critical five-steps of recovery described in her book titled: Will I Ever Be Good Enough? Healing the Daughters of Narcissistic Mothers, which I’ve found to be an extremely effective roadmap for healing from the pain of a narcissistic parent.

Utilizing Dr. McBride’s wisdom and combining it with my personal and professional experience I see my role as providing education about narcissism, supporting the important grief process and coaching you through the stages of healing - with compassion, patience and humor.

My clinical practice is based exclusively on offering help to adult children of narcissistic parents, in addition to teaching this information to other mental health & related professionals. Contact me directly for an initial free consultation by phone or in person.

My private practice is in Pacific Heights and I have experience with both brief-solution focused therapy as well as long-term insight oriented therapy. Many of my clients struggle with narcissistic parents and seek psychotherapy because they feel like they are falling short in some way: “I am not good enough”, “Something is not right.” They want to feel fulfilled and connected. I specialize in working with people experiencing significant life changes such as a wedding, a separation, a new baby, change of job, or diagnosis of an illness. A significant life change tends to evoke feelings of fear and uncertainty, past and present. I see psychotherapy as an opportunity to build understanding, inner strength, and clarity that will help my clients move through the challenges they are facing.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified EMDR Therapist. I have used EMDR psychotherapy along with Karyl McBride’s book and recovery model to help women and men understand and resolve the negative affects of being raised by a narcissistic parent.  My training and professional experience in trauma work, grief work, heartbreak recovery and career coaching helps clients heal, increase their self-confidence, and release the past, so they can have the future they desire. My personal and professional experience also makes me particularly well suited to understand and help daughters of narcissistic mothers.

EMDR provides quick and lasting shifts to negative self perceptions (for example: “I’m not good enough” or “I don’t matter” or “I’m powerless”) and dramatically diminishes the distress associated with memories of upsetting events. Criticism, rejection, humiliation, abandonment, loss, abuse and other types of trauma are very often the root cause of present day problems like: anxiety, depression, anger, rumination, recurring bad dreams, or the sense that no matter how hard you work or what you do you can’t find sustained peace, love or satisfaction in your personal life or career.

My style as a counselor is friendly, conversational, nurturing and accepting. Clients comment on how quickly they feel at ease with me and how easy it is to share their thoughts and feelings with me. They also appreciate my organized approach to therapy and my ability to identify the key issues within their many life stories. I love working as a therapist! I am grateful to my clients for the privilege of hearing their stories and the experience of helping them feel better and achieve their goals.

My private practice is in the western suburbs of Chicago. I am passionate in using the therapeutic relationship as a powerful tool for personal transformation. For those willing to engage in the work that therapy invites, I am a confident individuals can experience increased levels of personal fulfillment, purpose and internal freedom.

The majority of my clients contact me with issues related to loss. These can include: the loss of a loved one, losses associated in mid-life, and numerous losses related to being raised by a narcissistic parent.

I use a relational and holistic approach with training in both psychodynamic and self-psychology.

Being a long time student of the effects of narcissistic parenting, I highly recommend the book called Will I Ever Be Good Enough?  by Karyl McBride. This powerful book contains personal and practical insights into the devastating and painful effects inherited from narcissistic parenting and highlights necessary steps daughters can take to achieve healing and wholeness.

Ms. Beall has extensive experience working with women who struggle with alcoholism, addiction, and Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACoA) issues; many of her clients are daughters of narcissistic mothers. Online Profile

I am a licensed Clinical Social Worker in Vienna, Virginia. I have been in private practice since 1998. Prior to that, I was a foster care worker in Washington, D.C. and then trained as individual and family therapist at the Kennedy Krieger Family Center in Baltimore, Maryland. I  worked primarily with children and their families, who have been both sexually and physically abused. In conjunction with this training, I trained under Marianne Walters, LCSW of the Family Practice Center in Washington, DC. Both places allowed me to learn the art of solution/ short term focused therapy, cognitive, family and psychoanalytic therapies.

In private practice I work with adults, children/adolescents and families. My work with women involves helping them navigate through struggles with past issues of abuse/neglect, trauma, low self esteem, narcissism, anxiety, depression, separation/divorce and parenting struggles. I also work with adolescents and children who are struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD/ADD, abuse/neglect, separation/divorce of parents, social struggles, and grief and loss issues.

Family of origin issues, including being a child of a narcissistic mother or father, greatly impacts how a patient manages day to day, copes with crisis, and interacts with a partner/friends or a family of her own. I believe that having a greater understanding of one's family of origin , the strengths and weaknesses, creates a narrative of one's past. This framework ensures a greater success with relationships, with a job, as well as, supports one for the bumps life brings us all.

I work from the core belief that relationships are pivotal in creating wounds and healing. Therapy offers the possibility to learn about early and current relationships in the context of safely sitting and exploring with your therapist. Curiosity is key. This means, I am curious about you and hope that you are curious about yourself, the people in your life and how you relate to yourself and important others.

Often, clients come in due to some level of stress, trauma, anxiety, sadness or anger. These are ways your mind, heart and body express discomfort. Using these symptoms as motivators to change and explore may be very useful if done carefully, safely and patiently.

I work with individual adolescents and adults, couples and families. I have a particular interest in working with Mother/Daughter dyads or clients who have had strain in their relationships with one or both parents. I am trained by Karly McBride in Healing Daughters of Maternal Narcissism and welcome daughters, mothers and grandmothers in. Additionally, I welcome men who have had similar dynamics with a parent to open their exploration.

*While I cannot personally endorse specific therapists, these clinicians have read the book and attended a training on healing daughters. They have also provided us with current credentials and bios and have expressed an interest in treating daughters and assisting with this important therapeutic issue. It is still your responsibility to interview or consult first with a therapist in order to make a sound decision.

If you are a therapist and are interested in appearing on this referral network please see our registration form.
