I had two mothers growing up, one a ‘friend’ of my mother from their days as Catholic nuns. Both attended university together, both left the convent at the same time. I had always known that the second mother, present in my life every day since birth, was a narcissist from the stories my mother told about her and her odd behaviour. It was not until I began trying to figure out what had happened to me as a child, through studying psychology and later earning a master’s degree in counselling psychology, that I learned that my biological mother was also a narcissist.

At that time, I had also gone through a three-year divorce. Over those three years, my divorce lawyer kept calling my soon to be ex-husband a narcissist. I found out that she had sadly been right on point.

As an interning therapist, forty percent of my clients had a narcissistic parent, and because of my experience and research, I was able to validate their experience and help them begin the path to healing.

Karyl McBride’s 5 step recovery process has been a large part of my healing. Dr. McBride is the only therapist I have encountered who understands both NPD accurately and the requirements necessary in a therapist: acceptance, explanation of the grief process, the importance of validation and empathy, the choice for levels of contact with the narcissistic parent, not forcing forgiveness on the client, inner child work, and answering the client’s fears that she has taken on narcissistic traits of the mother.

I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. I have a master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and am a certified practitioner in Dr. Gabor Mate’s Compassionate Inquiry. I work primarily with the adult children of parents with narcissistic personality disorder and/or borderline personality disorder and also offer grief and loss counselling.

I work via an online platform and offer a sliding scale according to income and accept insurance.
